PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 65-year-old woman died Saturday evening after her vehicle was hit by an SUV in University Place, according to KOMO News.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal crash happened at 35th Street West and Grandview Drive West shortly before 6:00 p.m.

A preliminary investigation shows the woman was behind the wheel of a car that was stopped at a stop sign. Witnesses said the saw a male driver in an SUV speeding on Grandview Drive moments before he hit a slow-moving vehicle ahead of him.

After the first crash, the SUV continued down the road and made a turn at the corner, where it struck the woman’s stopped car.

Officials said the victim died from her injuries at the scene.

It was unclear whether anyone in the third vehicle was injured.

An investigation was underway, but the SUV driver was arrested for suspected DUI.

No further information has been shared at this time.
