MERCER ISLAND, WA – Delays were reported Thursday evening on westbound Interstate 90 in Mercer Island following a crash, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

The accident unfolded near Island Crest Way (Exit 7) and was first reported by WSDOT at 6:50 p.m.

Little information has been made available, but the two right westbound lanes were initially blocked. By 7:12 p.m., at least 20 minutes later, the closure was upgraded to three right lanes and the HOV lane.

While traffic was able to get by the scene, motorists were warned of a two-mile traffic backup that had formed in the area.

While WSDOT’s Incident Response Team (IRT), the Washington State Patrol, and local firefighters were all dispatched to the area, officials have not yet confirmed whether anyone was seriously injured.

The scene was reported cleared just before 7:30 p.m., but delays were still reported back to Bellevue Way.
