SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — One person lost their life Friday morning in a pedestrian collision on Interstate 5 near southwest Arlington, according to KOMO News.

The fatal incident unfolded on the northbound lanes just north of milepost 206, near State Route 531. Washington State Patrol troopers and first responders responded to the scene shortly after 5:15 a.m.

An investigation into the circumstances of the event remain underway, but officials indicated that the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A section of the northbound interstate, including the onramp from SR-531 to northbound I-5, was shut down for more than three hours during the emergency response. Motorists traveling to Mount Vernon from Everett were advised to take US Highway 2 to SR-9 to avoid a two-mile backup on I-5.

Shortly before 8:00 a.m., all travel lanes were reopened to traffic.
