KING COUNTY, WA — A 34-year-old BPD officer has died after his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle Monday morning in downtown Bellevue, according to King 5.

The fatal collision occurred in the 500 block of Bellevue Way Northeast, near the Lincoln Square South shopping center. It was first reported by Bellevue Fire Department officials at 9:55 a.m.

According to the Bellevue Police Department, the officer was driving a department motorcycle northbound when a white sedan pulled out from a parking lot and into the roadway. Moments later, the motorcycle collided with the sedan.

The officer, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he was later pronounced deceased.

Officials said none of the occupants in the sedan were reported hurt.

A section of Bellevue Way Northeast was shut down in both directions for an extended time. At 3:30 p.m., all lanes were reopened to traffic.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is being handled by the Washington State Patrol. At this time, neither speed nor impairment are believe to have been factors.
