SEATTLE, WA — Multiple emergency crews were called to a collision Friday afternoon on Interstate 5 near Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The wreck took place on the northbound lanes just south of South Michigan Street. It was first reported by WSDOT at 1:50 p.m.

Details remain limited, but the left lane, the HOV lane, and the exit ramp were all blocked in the immediate aftermath.

By 2:06 p.m., fire crews, medics, Washington State Patrol, and WSDOT’s Incident Response Team had all respond to the scene. Motorists were urged to use extra caution as they pass by the scene.

At 2:25 p.m., officials announced the scene had been cleared, but by then, a mile-long traffic backup had already formed in the area. Delays were expected to linger.

The cause of the crash remains undisclosed, and no details regarding potential injuries have been shared.
