TACOMA, WA — A 63-year-old man was seriously injured Friday, November 11, in a hit-and-run collision on Interstate 5 in Tacoma’a McKinley area, according to KOMO News.
The incident occurred on the southbound lanes approaching Exit 133 to I-705, near McKinley Park, at about 12:00 p.m.
An early investigation indicates the victim was behind the wheel of a Dodge Caravan heading southbound near the exit. At one point, another southbound driver in an unknown vehicle changed one lane over from the center lane to the right lane. A driver in a Subaru Outback, who was traveling in the right lane at the time, veered to the far-right lane to avoid a crash but ultimately collided with the back of the victim’s Dodge. As a result, the Dodge was sent into the back of an Acura MDX SUV, which then rear-ended a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Officials said the driver of the causing vehicle continued without stopping and was last seen taking the exit to I-705 northbound.
As a result of the multi-vehicle crash, the victim suffered serious injuries. No updates on his condition have been disclosed.
At this time, no details on the hit-and-run vehicle have been released. The Washington State Patrol urges anyone with information to call Detective Tessa Schahfer at (253) 538-3172.
