KING COUNTY, WA — Four teenagers were injured, two critically, late Monday after a multi-vehicle wreck on Highlands Drive Northeast in Issaquah, reports KOMO News.

The collision occurred at the intersection with Discovery Drive, on Halloween night at around 11:18 p.m.

An early investigation by the Washington State Patrol indicates drivers in two cars were racing each other down Highlands Drive Northeast when they both ran a red light at the intersection.

Officials said a third vehicle that was turning left during a green light was hit by one of the racing cars, which went on to strike a light pole before coming to a rest.

Two teenage passengers in the striking car were ejected. Both ejected victims were transported to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, with at least one patient suffering life-threatening injuries.

Two other teenage occupants in the same vehicle were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.

It was unclear whether anyone in either of the other two vehicles was hurt, but the WSP said the second racing car fled the scene.

A section of Highlands Drive was closed for over 8 hours during the emergency response and initial investigation.
