BENTON COUNTY, WA — A 43-year-old man was hospitalized Monday morning after his motorcycle was struck by a freight truck on Interstate 82 near south Kennewick, reports NBC Right Now.

The collision occurred on the westbound lanes of I-82 near Exit 113 to State Route 397, shortly before 9:00 a.m.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a 31-year-old man was driving a freight truck westbound on the interstate when he crossed SR-397 and tried to return to westbound I-82.

Officials said the truck collided with the motorcyclist, who was riding southbound on SR-397.

The motorcyclist was rushed to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. No updates have been shared on the patient’s condition, but he was wearing a proper helmet at the time of the wreck.

The truck driver, who was wearing a seat belt at the time, was not reported hurt.

An investigation was underway, but the WSP confirmed charges are pending against the truck driver.
