PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 24-year-old woman was arrested for suspected DUI Tuesday morning after a multi-vehicle crash that seriously hurt another in Spanaway, reports FOX13 Seattle.
The four-vehicle collision occurred at Pacific Avenue South and 180th Street South, shortly after 8:00 a.m.
Deputies with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department first encountered the female driver and her male passenger passed out in a vehicle parked near a Starbucks. Officials said drug paraphernalia was observed near the woman on the driver’s seat. The vehicle also had its hazard lights flashing and its windshield wipers activated at the time.
Shortly after deputies woke the occupants, the driver reversed into a patrol car, nearly hitting two deputies and a cadet. The vehicle was was seen fleeing southbound on Pacific Avenue before it was involved in the multi-car wreck shortly after.
One of the three victim drivers suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.
Both suspects in the striking vehicle also sustained undisclosed injuries and were taken to a hospital. The female driver is expected to be booked into jail upon her release as she is investigated for at least eight charges.
One of those charges include animal cruelty, as two small dogs were in the suspect’s vehicle at the time of the crash. One dog has been released to a witness after being ejected in the crash. The other dog has not been recovered as of this writing.
The male passenger, 32, has since been booked into Pierce County Jail. He faces up to five charges.
Officials also noted the striking vehicle had been reported stolen in Frederickson back in June.
