THURSTON COUNTY, WA — A 16-year-old girl died Tuesday night after a single-car collision that injured two others on State Route 510 near east Olympia, reports FOX13 Seattle.

The Washington State Patrol responded to the scene on the eastbound lanes just east of 15th Avenue Southeast, shortly after 11:00 p.m.

An early investigation shows a 17-year-old girl was driving eastbound when she became distracted and veered off the roadway. Moments later, the vehicle collided with a tree and a telephone pole.

One of the vehicle’s two passengers was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver and an 18-year-old female passenger suffered undisclosed injuries and were transported to a local hospital. No updates on their condition have been released.

A section of the roadway was closed for almost five hours during the emergency response.

An investigation into the cause of the crash remains underway, though at this time, the WSP does not suspect impairment was a factor.
