PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 34-year-old woman died Monday morning after crashing her car into another vehicle and a tree in south Tacoma, reports The News Tribune.

Tacoma police said the events unfolded on South Orchard Street just north of Center Street at around 8:52 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the woman was driving a 2015 Scion sedan northbound at a high rate of speed at the same time a BMW was pulling out of a gas station and into the northbound lanes. The Scion collided with the BMW, tearing off the second car’s front wheels. It then continued traveling across Orchard Street until it hit a tree in the front yard of a residence.

The driver of the Scion was rushed to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries, confirmed authorities.

The driver of the BMW, a 31-year-old man, was briefly trapped in his vehicle and suffered minor injuries.

No further details have been disclosed at this time.
