PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 30-year-old man suspected of DUI was taken into custody early Wednesday after crashing into a Pierce County deputy’s patrol car in Edgewood, according to FOX 13 Seattle.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred on a span of Meridian Avenue East shortly after midnight.

The deputy was heading northbound on the road when he spotted an oncoming vehicle driving in the wrong way in his lane. He slowed down but the car approached and ultimately struck his patrol car at a speed of 15 miles per hour.

No injuries were reported in the collision.

The deputy said when he got of his car to check on the driver, the man appeared to be passed out at the wheel. After the deputy woke him up, the man continued to display signs of intoxication but refused to give a breath sample.

The man was then taken to a hospital for a blood draw and was later arrested and booked into jail. He faces multiple charges, including “DUI with a prior conviction, second-degree driving while suspended, and reckless driving.”
