SEATTLE, WA — Multiple southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Seattle’s Cascade area were blocked late Monday morning following a collision, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The accident took place just south of Mercer Street and was first reported by WSDOT at 10:00 a.m., when only the right lane was closed.
By 10:16 a.m., three right lanes were blocked as Medical Aid, Fire Assistance crews, and WSDOT’s Incident Response Team (IRT) responded to the area.
Motorists were told to expect traffic delays and urged to find alternate routes around the scene, since a nearly two-mile backup had formed.

Officials did not immediately confirm any injuries.
