KING COUNTY, WA — Three people were injured, two critically, Saturday afternoon due to a multi-vehicle wreck involving seven motorcycles on State Route 18 in Auburn, reports KOMO News.

The multi-vehicle accident, which also involved three other vehicles, unfolded on the eastbound lanes of SR-18 near SR-167. It was first reported by Washington State Trooper Rick Johnson just after 1:00 p.m.

According to officials, one driver was slowing for traffic ahead when their vehicle was rear-ended by a second vehicle. Shortly after, as many as nine motorcycles were said to have been involved in that collision, though the crash report only lists seven motorcycles and three other vehicles. The exact sequence of events has not been disclosed, but following the initial rear-end crash, a third car is believed to have veered and crashed into a group of motorcycles before it drove off.

First responders rushed three riders, two by airlift and one by ground transport, for injuries believed to be “non life-threatening.”

At this time, a description of the fleeing driver and/or vehicle has not been shared. Pending charges also remain unknown.
