News UPDATE: Suspect identified after double-fatal hit-and-run on I-5 near SODO

SEATTLE, WA — A 20-year-old man faces charges in connection to a hit-and-run crash last month that killed two people in Seattle’s SoDo area, reports the Washington State Patrol.

Authorities said the fatal incident occurred on the southbound interstate near the West Seattle Freeway. WSP troopers responded to the scene after receiving a report at around 3:00 a.m.

An early investigation indicates two vehicles were initially involved in a crash. One driver had exited their vehicle to inspect the damage when a southbound Jeep Wrangler struck both of the stopped vehicles. Shortly after, both the driver and passenger of the Jeep fled the scene on foot.

First responders arrived on the scene to find two passengers in one of the victim vehicles unresponsive. Both victims were pronounced deceased at the crash site.

The driver who had been standing outside their vehicle suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Harborview Medical Center.

On March 27, 2023, about a month later, the WSP issued a press release identifying the suspect driver as 20-year-old Anthony Lopez, of Renton. He faces two counts of Vehicular Homicide, 1 count of Vehicular Assault, and Felony Hit and Run. Authorities are working to locate him, and a warrant for $260,000 was issued for his arrest.
