KING COUNTY, WA — A man was critically injured Monday evening in a semi-truck wreck and subsequent fire that also hurt a Good Samaritan on State Route 18 near Auburn, reports KIRO 7 Seattle.

The collision occurred on the SR-18 eastbound offramp to the northbound lanes of SR-167. It was first reported by South King Fire & Rescue at 5:37 p.m.

Authorities said a Marine Corps veteran who was driving by the area was able to pull the victim from the cab of the truck before first responders arrived.

Crews then rushed the patient to Harborview Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition with multiple injuries and severe burns.

The Good Samaritan was also said to have suffered less-serious injuries and burns, but it was unclear whether they were taken to a hospital.

Authorities said firefighters arrived to find clouds of black smoke emitting from the semi, as well as about 150 feet of damaged guardrail.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the wreck, but an investigation was underway.
