PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 29-year-old man was hospitalized Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle while running across a road near the Tacoma Dome Station in downtown Tacoma, reports The News Tribune.

The incident took place in the 1000 block of Puyallup Avenue between McKinley Avenue East and East K Street shortly before 10:20 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 37-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a Ford sedan going eastbound on the road when the male pedestrian darted out across the road and was hit.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. No updates on his condition have been released as of this writing.

Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and was questioned at the scene. She told responding officers she did not see the victim in the road prior to the crash and was not issued a citation in the event. No impairment was suspected.
