KITSAP COUNTY, WA — A 63-year-old man died last Friday after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Poulsbo, according to Kitsap Sun.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal incident occurred on a stretch of Central Valley Road on January 21.

A preliminary investigation shows a 28-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Jeep Cherokee when he hit the cyclist as he drove on the shoulder in an attempt to another vehicle.

The victim, who had been struck from behind while wearing bright neon clothing, died from his injuries at the scene.

Two witnesses told authorities the suspect continued driving.

The suspect and a female passenger were later located in a vehicle bearing damage consistent with the crash. A responding deputy discovered the pair parked outside an apartment complex about to use an illegal substance.

The driver has since been booked into the Kitsap County Jail and was charged with vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run.
