TACOMA, WA — A man was hospitalized Monday afternoon after a multi-vehicle accident on State Route 512 near south Tacoma, according to Washington State Patrol.
The collision occurred on the westbound lanes near Portland Avenue East and was first reported by Trooper Robert Reyer at 1:06 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the victim’s vehicle was rear-ended by another car, which pushed it into the back of a semi-trailer.
Medics transported the victim to an area hospital with serious injuries. It was not unclear whether he was the driver or a passenger in the vehicle.

One left westbound lane was closed during an investigation.
WSP confirmed the causing driver was taken into custody and faces a charge of vehicular assault.
