KING COUNTY, WA — Several people were hospitalized Thursday night after a multi-vehicle crash involving a dump truck and a King County Metro bus near Renton, according to KIRO 7 News.

The accident happened on 140th Avenue Southeast near Maple Valley Highway. It was first reported by Renton Police Department at 7:44 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a dump truck was heading south on the road toward the highway when it lost control going downhill and hit two vehicles and then the Metro bus. The bus then collided with other vehicles.

Police said the driver of the dump truck, who was believe to have not been wearing a seat belt, was ejected in the crash and found in the middle of the road. He was said to be unconscious but still breathing when he was rushed to a hospital.

Five other people were also taken to area hospitals with a range of other injuries.

The event caused the highway to close between eastbound Interstate 405 to westbound 149th Avenue. It was later reopened around 10:30 p.m.

Authorities believe the truck may have experienced a mechanical failure, but further investigation was underway.
