SKAGIT COUNTY, WA — One person was killed Tuesday evening in a collision involving two vehicles on Interstate 5 near Mount Vernon, according to Trooper Rocky Oliphant with Washington State Patrol.

Troopers responded to the crash on a stretch of I-5 southbound at milepost 232 in the Burlington and Mount Vernon area shortly before 6:50 p.m.

One person died as a result of the accident, though it was not confirmed whether they died on scene or at a hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The incident left both northbound and southbound lanes of I-5 completely blocked as WSP investigated.
