GARCIA, WA – According to a Washington State Patrol press memo, one driver was killed and another was hospitalized following a three-truck crash on Interstate 90 East near Garcia last Wednesday.

The incident report stated the collision occurred around 9:34 p.m. on January 13, when a truck traveling the wrong way in the middle lane of I-90 East crashed into the trailer of a truck driven by 46-year-old James Barnes, who had swerved to the right lane in an attempt to avoid the crash.

The wrong-way truck was then sent into the left lane, where it struck an eastbound truck driven by 59-year-old William Carroll head-on.

The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Carroll was taken to Overlake Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Barnes was uninjured in the crash.

Authorities say all three drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of collision.
