SEATTLE, WA – A two-vehicle accident on U.S. 101 in Mason County on Tuesday evening led to the hospitalization of both drivers and traffic delays lasting almost three hours, reports The Olympian.

Officials said the accident occurred at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, when a 40-year-old Hoodsport man’s vehicle crossed the road’s centerline and collided with a northbound vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man from Shelton. Both men were injured and their vehicles were totaled. Traffic on U.S. 101 was blocked as authorities responded to the crash.

The Hoodsport man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and the Shelton man was taken to Mason General Hospital in Shelton for treatment with what are assumed to be serious injuries.

The southbound lane reopened to alternating traffic at around 2 p.m. Tuesday. Traffic was fully cleared at 3:47 p.m., almost three hours after the accident occurred.

According to a news release, there are charges pending against the Hoodsport man while the circumstances of the accident are further investigated. At this time, it is unclear whether impairment contributed to the accident.
