News: Collision on SR 16 in Gig Harbor kills pedestrian

GIG HARBOR, WA – A pedestrian was struck and killed on State Route 16 near the Burnham Drive on-ramp in Gig Harbor early Thursday morning, reports The News Tribune.

Washington State Troopers say the victim, a 62-year old man from Port Orchard, was walking eastbound on the shoulder of the Burnham Drive on-ramp to SR-16 at the time of the incident. When the man attempted to cross lanes, he was struck by an eastbound van being driven by a 32-year-old man from Kent.

The pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene. Traffic on SR-16 was closed for more than two hours while officials responded to the scene and investigated the accident.

Authorities have not publicly released the victim or driver’s identity. We will update this blog should more information become available.
