EVERETT, WA – Authorities say a woman was killed after being hit by a BNSF train on the tracks near Riverfront Boulevard east of Interstate 5 on Sunday night, reports My Everett News.

BNSF employees reported the collision around 9 p.m. Sunday. Everett Police Department officers responded to the scene shortly after and attempted to stabilize the woman’s condition. Medics then transported the woman to Providence Regional Medical Center where she died.

The collision is being investigated by Everett PD, as it is currently unclear why the woman was near the tracks. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner is currently working to determine the cause of death and to release the victim’s identity.
