What Is Whiplash?

Whiplash occurs when unnatural strain damages the soft tissues in the neck, including muscles, ligaments, and tendons. It commonly develops when the force of a rear-end truck collision or a head-on car accident violently snaps the neck forward and backward. People who suffer from whiplash often endure chronic pain, swelling, muscle spasm and limited range of motion due to the scar tissue built up in the neck muscles.

Many people suffering from whiplash also experience straightening of the curve in the neck (loss of the cervical curve) and suffer from a condition commonly referred to as ‘military neck’.
