Man hit by car in North Seattle is seriously injured

Seattle drivers know that they need to share the roadways with pedestrians, bicyclists and other vehicles. However, it is easy for these drivers to get distracted and fail to notice everyone around them. In these situations, tragedy can strike -- particularly if an auto-pedestrian accident occurs. Pedestrian accidents are generally even more serious than other types of accidents since pedestrians have virtually no protection against a car. Therefore, serious injuries including broken bones, head injuries and death are common.

Washington woman hit and killed by car

In the winter months as the days become shorter, people are forced to spend more time outside when it is dark. For many people, the commute to and from work may be without much sunlight. For pedestrians, a few hours without daylight can be dangerous. Even in a large city like Seattle, where street lights and store fronts provide some light, it can still be hard for motorists to see pedestrians in the evening and early morning hours. Sometimes, that causes deadly consequences.

Backup camera rules take a backseat, pedestrians still at risk

In an accident between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian, it is very often the pedestrian that suffers the most. Because of how vulnerable people on the street are, being struck by a car can result in catastrophic injuries. In many cases, pedestrians suffer broken bones, spinal cord injuries, head trauma and even death if they get hit by a car. This is why it is crucial for drivers to be attentive and cautious behind the wheel.

During the beautiful months of a Seattle-area summer, many people head outdoors for walks during their lunch breaks, or whenever they can, for some fresh air. Despite pedestrian crosswalk markings, and traffic laws in place to prevent accidents involving motorists and pedestrians, sometimes accidents still happen and can result in serious injury or even death.

Many people rely on public transportation. Not only is it good for the environment, but it is also a great way to save for many commuters.
