When your doctor wants to close your case before you're better

doctor.jpgIf there's one thing I've learned in my 20 years representing injured people, its that everyone experiences injuries differently. I've seen people walk away from major wrecks without needing any treatment at all and I've seen people suffer for years from relatively minor incidents.

I want to fire my lawyer

fired.jpgSeveral times each year, I get a call from someone who was injured in an accident, hired a lawyer, and now wants to fire his lawyer and hire me. The most common reason people give for wanting to change lawyers is lack of communication. They tell me stories of trying for weeks to speak to their lawyers without success. They leave messages and speak to case managers, legal assistants, and paralegals. They even send letters, but they never hear back from their attorneys.

Do pedestrians have a part in preventing pedestrian accidents?

Pedestrians are just one part of every vibrant city. Seattle residents fill the city streets as they casually move from place to place. This pedestrian traffic helps to support local businesses, helps to cut back on traffic congestion and helps people get out and exercise.

DO I HAVE TO PAY TO MEET WITH A LAWYER?

meet with lawyer.jpgEvery day I get phone calls from people who have been injured in some kind of accident. Often the first question they have for me is how much it will cost to meet with me to discuss their case. I guess it shouldn't surprise me; most people don't really pay attention to personal injury lawyers until they need one. The answer is simple:

Contributory negligence in Washington

Seattle's streets are a busy place. There are cars, commercial trucks, bikes and buses. With all this traffic, accidents are almost guaranteed. However, these accidents don't just occur between two vehicles. Pedestrians are also at risk of injuries while in or near Seattle streets.

Pedestrian hit by car, left with life-threatening injuries

pedestrian accident.jpgDrivers have many responsibilities when they get behind the wheel of a car. They need to make sure they are following rules that apply to themselves, wearing their own seatbelt, for example. They also need to make sure they are following general traffic laws. This includes following posted speed limits and traffic control devices. Drivers also need to make sure their cars are in good working order. Finally, people need to make sure that they are careful of the other people on the road. This includes other drivers and pedestrians.

Pedestrian accidents a growing problem as more people walking

Neighborhoods that allow easy access for pedestrians and pedestrian traffic are in demand. Although the trend promises to be good for people's health, it has caused increasing concerns for pedestrian safety. It was recently reported that approximately 2,125 pedestrians were killed during the first half of 2014. Moreover, pedestrian deaths have increased 15 percent since 2009.

Bikers are pedestrians too -- know your rights

In the summertime bikers are out enjoying the city of Seattle. Seattle is an extremely biker friendly city. With bike lanes, parks and other recreational activities, it is no surprise that so many people enjoy biking in our city. As an added bonus, biking is often a faster and cheaper way to commute to work and to get some exercise. This popular choice has many benefits for people of all ages.

The dangers of blind spots and SUVs in Washington

Many people in Washington have prescribed to a "bigger is better" lifestyle. People want big houses, big yards, big meals and big cars. This has led to the creation of very large passenger vehicles called sport utility vehicles, or SUVs. Despite their popularity, these vehicles are not safer than traditional passenger cars. This can be seen in a recent case highlighted on this blog. In that case, a Seattle man and his small child were hit by an SUV as the car's driver tried to parallel park the large vehicle. In this auto-pedestrian accident, the man was injured and sent to a local hospital.

Man and infant suffer injuries after being hit by SUV in Seattle

In an unusual accident, a man and his child in Seattle were recently hurt by an SUV. They were on the sidewalk near the intersection of Madison Street and Western Avenue when the accident occurred. The infant was in a stroller when the accident happened. According to reports, the driver of an SUV was trying to parallel park his car when he somehow jumped the curb. The driver of the SUV claimed that his foot got stuck underneath the brake pedal of the vehicle as he was attempting the parking maneuver. The vehicle hit the pair and pinned them against a building.
