Do hours of service requirements apply to bus drivers?

Drivers of large commercial trucks that transport goods across Washington and through other states are bound to abide by certain safety protocols. One of those protocols involves limiting the number of hours these individuals can drive between breaks. These protocols, termed "hours of service" by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration are utilized to prevent driver fatigue and accidents that can happen when drivers are too tired to drive safely.

Helping you following a mass transit accident

It is not always possible to travel by personal vehicle. Residents and tourists in Seattle and elsewhere may rely on public transportation to get to and from their destinations. Whether it is to go to the store, work, school or sight seeing, buses are often utilized. If a bus driver is not driving safely or the bus is not properly maintained, this could result in a serious bus crash, causing passengers to suffer severe and even fatal injuries.

How frequently do fatal school bus accidents occur?

While school is in session, parents in Washington and other states across the nation often send their child to and from school on a school bus. While these are convenient forms of transportation, they also have some risks and dangers like any form of transportation. Unlike passenger vehicles, school buses are not equipped with seatbelt. Thus, when a school bus gets into a collision, students are often thrown about the vehicle. This could result in serious or fatal injuries, especially if the bus was filled with student passengers at the time of the bus crash.

Ride the Ducks trial underway in Seattle

A trial in the Seattle area is bringing back memories of a terrible accident involving a Ride the Ducks amphibious vehicle and a charter bus. The accident happened in 2015 on a bridge in the area that both the State of Washington and the City have some responsibility. An axle broke off the Ride the Ducks vehicle, sending it across the center and in to the oncoming bus that was full of college students. Five people died in the accident, and over 60 people suffered injuries that were significant enough to be reported.
