News: Suspected DUI Rear-End Accident Injures Woman and Child

FIFE, WA – A Tacoma man is facing DUI and vehicular assault charges after a rear-end collision that injured a nine-year-old girl and left a 40-year-old woman in critical condition last Saturday night, MyNorthwest reports.

According to police, the collision occurred under the Wapato Way East overpass on I-5 around 10 pm. A Volkswagen Rabbit was slowing as it approached a tow truck on the shoulder of the freeway when a Mercedes struck the Volkswagen from the rear.

Both the driver, a 27-year-old woman, and the nine-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen were injured. The critically injured woman was a passenger in the Mercedes.

The 44-year-old driver of the Mercedes is believed to have been impaired at the time of the accident. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into Pierce County Jail.

The accident remains under investigation.
