KENT, WA — A 25-year-old Federal Way man suffered critical injuries early Sunday morning when he was struck by a car after a separate rollover collision on state Route 167 in Kent, according to Kent Reporter.
The incident occurred on a stretch of SR-167 northbound approaching the merge to state Route 516 at approximately 2:43 a.m.
According to Washington State Patrol, the young man was driving a 2015 Ford Focus northbound on the highway when his vehicle ran off the roadway, hit the barrier and rolled until coming to rest in the HOV lane. The man then got out of the vehicle and stood by the front left side.
Not long after, a northbound 2003 Toyota Highlander attempting to swerve to avoid the Ford Focus struck the left side of the vehicle along with the 25-year-old man.
Responding paramedics took the 25-year-old driver to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries. He remained in critical condition as of Monday afternoon.
The driver of the Highlander, a 73-year-old Seattle man, was uninjured in the accident.
WSP cited speed as a factor in the crash. It is still unknown whether or not drugs or alcohol played a role.
