News: WSP trooper hospitalized after crash on I-82 in Sunnyside

YAKIMA COUNTY, WA — A Washington State Patrol trooper was injured Thursday morning when his parked car was rear-ended on Interstate 82 in Sunnyside, reports KOMO News.

The collision occurred on the westbound highway at milepost 66, west of South 1st Street/Midvale Road, in the city’s southwest corner.

According to the WSP, the trooper’s marked car was parked on the right shoulder of I-82 when it was hit from behind. Photos captured at the scene show considerable damage to the vehicle’s backend.

The trooper, who suffered undisclosed injuries, was transported to a local emergency room.

No information on the driver of the striking vehicle has been shared.

Authorities had the right lane closed during the response, which led to a traffic backup about two to three miles long.
