TACOMA, WA — A 28-year-old woman was hospitalized Thursday morning after being hit by a vehicle while inside a tent in downtown Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood, according to The News Tribune.
Tacoma Police responded to the scene at Tacoma Avenue South and South 7th Street shortly after receiving a call at 4:27 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates an argument between two men led to one intentionally driving toward the other. The targeted man was able to avoid the oncoming vehicle, but the driver struck a tent that was occupied by the woman.
Tacoma Fire crews extricated the victim, who had become trapped under the van as a result of the crash. She suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
The driver of the striking van fled the scene and has not been arrested as of this writing.
Officials noted the targeted man had been staying in the same tent that was occupied by the woman prior to the crash. Both victims are believed to be experiencing homelessness.
No further details have been shared at this time, but an investigation was underway.
