KING COUNTY, WA — A 40-year-old Hillsboro woman died Sunday night after a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 5 near northeast Federal Way, reports Federal Way Mirror.
The fatal collision occurred on the northbound lanes near South 304th Street at approximately 6:40 p.m.
According to the Washington State Patrol. the woman was behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram heading northbound when she hit a Mazda Protege. The impact of the crash caused the Dodge to spin and strike a Kia Forte, causing both vehicles to run off the interstate and onto Military Road South below.
The woman was thrown from the Dodge when it collided with a tree. Authorities confirmed the victim, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time, died from her injuries at the scene.
The Kia Forte flipped as a result of the crash and came to rest on its roof. The driver of the Kia, a 60-year-old Tacoma man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.
No injuries to the occupants of the Mazda, which came to rest on the shoulder of I-5, were reported.
An investigation was underway, but as of this writing, the WSP has found an unsafe lane change and impairment to be factors in the crash.
