News: Woman killed after making illegal U-turn on I-5 in Tukwila

KING COUNTY, WA — A 50-year-old Seattle woman died Thursday afternoon after a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 in Tukwila, according to Washington State Patrol.

The collision occurred on the eastbound lanes of the interstate near State Route 900 at around 12:43 p.m.

An investigation shows the woman was driving a 1996 Ford Ranger in the far left lane of the eastbound interstate when she attempted to make an illegal U-turn. WSP said her pickup was struck by a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country minivan in the next lane as it turned in the van’s path.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed authorities. The WSP press memo indicates she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The driver of the minivan, a 37-year-old Renton man, was not reported injured.

Both vehicles were totaled and had to be towed from the scene.
