News: Woman injured by hit-and-run driver outside Poulsbo store

KITSAP COUNTY, WA — A 48-year-old woman was hurt Monday evening when she was hit by a vehicle outside a Poulsbo convenience store, reports KOMO News.

The incident occurred at Hilltop Grocery off of Washington State Highway 3, at about 6:30 p.m.

Officials with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said the woman was walking toward a trash can outside the store when a Lexus appeared to intentionally accelerate and strike her, pinning her between the car and the gas station. The driver of the Lexus then reversed and fled the scene.

The extent of the victim’s injuries was not elaborated, but she had to be treated for leg injuries.

In a separate report, a man alerted the sheriff’s office about an incident in which a Lexus appeared to travel toward him while he was walking along the shoulder of Highway 3. After the male pedestrian yelled at the driver, the Lexus was seen making a U-turn and speeding toward him. The victim told authorities he had been able to avoid being hit by jumping into a ditch.

Military police later apprehended the hit-and-run suspect after he was found illegally driving on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. According to the KCSO, the same suspect is believed to be linked to a recent Tacoma hit-and-run.

An investigation by the Washington State Patrol remains ongoing.
