KING COUNTY, WA — A 28-year-old woman died early Wednesday morning after a house fire in east Bellevue’s Lake Hills neighborhood, according to KIRO 7 News.
Bellevue Fire Department crews responded to the scene at the corner of 152nd Place Southeast and Southeast First Street shortly after 2:00 a.m.
Authorities said a male resident had called emergency dispatchers saying there was a fire in the basement of his home and that he believed his wife was trapped.
Bellevue police officers arrived first at the scene but were unable to reach the victim. Responding firefighters were able to access the woman through a door from the backyard, but the victim was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim’s husband suffered minor injuries, but it was unclear whether or not he had to be hospitalized.
Authorities said the fire was confined to the basement and was extinguished within ten minutes after crews arrived.
An investigation into the fatal fire is being handled by Bellevue fire officials, police, and a team with the Seattle branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
