News: Woman dies after multi-vehicle wreck on I-5 near Federal Way

KING COUNTY, WA — A 26-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning in a multi-car crash involving a suspected DUI driver on Interstate 5, according to Federal Way Mirror.

The collision occurred on the southbound lanes near Federal Way at approximately 1:44 a.m.

Washington State Patrol said a vehicle became disabled in the roadway and was blocking one of the five lanes. Two vehicles came to a stop in the same lane and were trying to pass the car. The DUI suspect then approached in a fourth vehicle and rear-ended one of the cars, pushing it into another. The impact caused one of the cars to spin around in the wrong direction. The suspect then continued southbound until it hit the wrong-way vehicle and stopped in the center-left lane.

The victim, who was a passenger in one of the impacted vehicles, died at the scene. Two other occupants in the victim’s car, a 24-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, were transported to Renton’s Valley Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.

No other injuries were reported, but as many as three vehicles were totaled in the incident.

Washington State Patrol said they arrested the suspect, a 43-year-old man, on charges of vehicular homicide and DUI. No further details have been disclosed.
