News: Woman dies after head-on collision near Tacoma’s Fern Hill

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 64-year-old woman died Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle crash that occurred during a possible medical emergency in south Tacoma, reports KOMO News.

The fatal accident happened on Yakima Avenue, between South 86th Street and South 88th Street, at about 7:40 a.m.

Tacoma Police said the woman was driving southbound on the road when she appeared to suffer a medical episode, causing her to veer past the center line. Moments later, she collided head-on with another vehicle driven by a 34-year-old woman.

The striking driver was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The other driver sustained minor injuries, though it was unclear whether she was taken to a hospital.

A section of the road was shut down as officials responded to the scene.
