SEATTLE, WA — A woman was fatally injured early Thursday when she was struck by a car in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood, according to KOMO News.
The incident was reported at the intersection of 1st Avenue South (East Marginal Way South) at South Lucile Street. By the time Seattle Police arrived on the scene at around 5:30 a.m., Seattle Fire Department crews were administering aid to the female pedestrian.
Officials have not released a sequence of events leading up to the crash, but early reports indicate a 64-year-old man was driving southbound on 1st Avenue South when his vehicle hit the woman.
Despite life-saving measures at the scene, the victim was pronounced deceased.
SPD officials said the male driver, who displayed signs of impairment at the crash site, was arrested and was expected to be booked into King County Jail following a medical evaluation. He faces a charge of vehicular homicide.
Part of 1st Avenue South was blocked between South Lucile and South Orcas streets, causing delays in the area. By 7:40 a.m., all travel lanes were reopened to the public.
