News: Vehicle fire closes multiple lanes on I-5 SB near south Tacoma

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Crews responded to a vehicle fire late Wednesday morning that blocked up to four lanes of Interstate 5 near south Tacoma, according to The News Tribune.

The incident was reported on the southbound interstate, just north of the South 48th Street overpass, at around 11:29 a.m.

It remains unclear at this time whether a crash led up to the fire, but the Washington State Patrol said the vehicle was observed on the right shoulder, near the exit to South 56th Street.

Officials with the Washington State Department of Transportation said four traffic lanes were blocked at one point as Tacoma Fire Department crews put out the flames. Traffic was backed up to Portland Avenue.

By 12:53 p.m., the scene had been cleared from the roadway and all lanes were reopened to traffic.

No injuries have been reported as of this writing.
