News: Vehicle catches fire on Tacoma Narrows Bridge into Gig Harbor

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A vehicle fire caused major delays during the Wednesday morning commute over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge heading toward Gig Harbor, reports KIRO 7 News.

The incident occurred on the westbound lanes of State Route 16 and was first registered by traffic cameras at around 9:00 a.m.

It was not immediately clear whether a crash or mechanical issues caused the blaze, but local firefighters responded to the scene shortly after.

Though multiple westbound lanes were closed during the emergency response, westbound traffic was still able to pass through a single open lane.

No serious injuries have been confirmed following the event.
