CARNATION, WA – According to an update from KOMO News, it was a 44-year-old woman from Duvall who died after a crash involving a fallen tree on Saturday.
New information also reveals that a 49-year-old man from Skyomish was driving a Subaru Forester, traveling on southbound SR 203, when he was struck by the falling tree. The Subaru then crashed into a guardrail. Moments later, debris from the wreck crashed into a truck with four people inside.
Eastside Fire & Rescue crews responded to the scene around 2:30 p.m. and had to extricate the Subaru driver and passenger, the Duvall woman, from the vehicle. They used the Jaws of Life technique to remove the driver’s door.
The woman did not wear a seatbelt and died from her injuries. The male driver was left with life-threatening injuries. Ambulance crews transported the man to Stillwater Elementary School. From there, medical helicopter personnel airlifted him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Fire crews confirmed the truck occupants, two adults and two children from Woodway, were uninjured.
Fire crews said the heavy rainfall may have played a role in what caused the truck to eventually come tumbling down.
