SEATTLE, WA — A 56-year-old Arizona woman has been identified as the pedestrian who died last Friday afternoon after jumping off an overpass and being hit by a vehicle in south Seattle, reports the Washington State Patrol.
Officials said the woman was found in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 under the South Columbian Way bridge shortly after 12:42 p.m.
An early investigation indicates the victim had jumped off the overpass in what appears to have been a suicide attempt. Moments after landing in lane 3 of 4, she was hit by a vehicle while laying in the roadway.
The driver fled the scene without stopping. As of this writing, they have yet to be identified, and officials have not released a description of the vehicle.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next-of-kin has since been notified by the King County Medical Examiner.
All southbound lanes of I-5 were blocked for about two hours during the response and investigation.
No further information has been provided at this time.
