KING COUNTY, WA — A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody following a hit-and-run pedestrian crash Wednesday, December 6, in Redmond that claimed the life of a 40-year-old man, reports KOMO News.
The fatal incident unfolded in the 17600 block of Northeast 24th Street, near the city’s Viewpoint Open Space, at around 2:35 p.m.
Redmond Police Department officials say the teen was operating a stolen 2007 gray Nissan Pathfinder recklessly and at high speeds. At one point, he lost control of the vehicle, which veered onto the sidewalk and struck a male pedestrian.
Following the crash, the driver of the Pathfinder and an unspecified number of passengers got out of and ran away from the vehicle, which had become disabled. A close examination of security footage and witness reports ultimately helped detectives identify the teen driver and the involved passengers.
The teen driver, who faces charges of vehicular homicide, has since been booked into the King County detention center.
