News UPDATE: Semi driver cited after major wreck on Skagit River Bridge in Mt. Vernon

SKAGIT COUNTY, WA — A 46-year-old woman survived a serious two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning involving a semi-truck on the Skagit RIver Bridge in Mount Vernon, according to KOMO News.

The collision occurred on a span of Interstate 5 over the Skagit River and was first reported by Washington State Patrol trooper Rocky Oliphant shortly before noon.

According to authorities, the victim was behind the wheel of a red 2015 Nissan Altima when she was rear-ended by a semi-truck, which caused the Altima to fold in half. The semi then landed on top of the car, flattening the vehicle.

Troopers anticipated serious injuries in the crash, but the woman suffered minor injuries.

WSP later confirmed the driver of the semi was cited for “following too closely” and fined $189.
