News UPDATE: Hit-and-run driver sought after serious injury crash in Tacoma

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A woman was critically injured Monday morning after a crash involving a U-Haul truck in downtown Tacoma, according to KOMO News.

The incident occurred in the 1300 block of Tacoma Avenue South. Tacoma Police were called to the scene at about 5:50 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a driver in a U-Haul rental truck was speeding southbound when the truck ran a red light at the South 13th Street intersection. Moments later, the truck hit a Scion driven by the victim.

Officials said the impact of the crash caused the Scion to strike a building before it came to rest. Following the wreck, the driver of the U-Haul fled the area on foot.

First responders rushed the driver of the Scion to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. No updates on her condition have been shared at this time.

A section of Tacoma Avenue South was closed for hours as authorities investigated. As of this writing, Tacoma Police continue to search for the fleeing driver.
