PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Authorities have arrested a 30-year-old Puyallup man believed to be responsible for a head-on crash that killed a motorcyclist last Friday in Tacoma, reports The News Tribune.
The fatal incident occurred on State Route 16 near the exit to Sprague Avenue, on September 16 at around 12:22 a.m.
An investigation by the Washington State Patrol indicates the Puyallup man was driving a Jeep westbound in the eastbound lanes when he collided head-on with a motorcyclist and then another driver in a sedan.
First responders pronounced the rider, a 51-year-old Grapeview man, deceased at the scene.
The driver of the sedan, a 30-year-old Tacoma man, suffered undisclosed injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center.
Officials said the Jeep fled the scene, but authorities later located and booked the suspect in the Pierce County Jail at around 3:15 p.m. the following afternoon. He is now being investigated for “vehicular homicide” and “failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident.”
Troopers said all involved vehicles were totaled in the accident and towed from the scene.
