SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A 61-year-old Mountlake Terrace woman is expected to be charged after her car struck two children in an Edmonds crosswalk last Friday, reports Lynnwood Times.
The incident occurred at the corner of 220th Street Southwest and 80th Avenue West, in the Esperance area, on April 22.
An investigation by the Edmonds Traffic Unit shows the female driver had just picked up a family member from a nearby school when she approached the intersection. A family of four were crossing the road in a marked crosswalk as she hit two children, a 14-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy (initially believed to be 15 and 3, respectively).
Both children have since been released from the hospital. Edmonds Police said the toddler suffered a concussion and internal bruising, while the teenager received serious bruises.
Authorities said the woman was driving at or below the area’s speed limit of 30 miles per hour at the time, but had become distracted while tending to a family member in the car. Impairment was not suspected in the crash.
The driver will be cited for Negligent Driving 2nd degree
