News UPDATE: Alleged DUI driver died after collision with Port Orchard officer 

PORT ORCHARD, WA – An alleged DUI driver who was responsible for a head-on collision involving a Port Orchard police officer has since passed away, according to Kiro7. 

The crash happened before 2 a.m. on Southeast Lund Avenue near Sidney Avenue on Thursday. 

Preliminary details show that the alleged DUI driver, a 21-year-old man, who was driving a BMW was speeding. He lost control of his car, went into the opposite lane of traffic, and collided head-on with fully marked Port Orchard Police Department Ford Explorer.

The 21-year-old man was initially left in serious condition, but died from his injuries. 

Komo News said the police officer was taken to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Washington State Patrol said they believe the 21-year-old had either drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of the crash. 

A full investigation is underway.
